I knew it was inevitable

I just found out that a friend has contracted HIV.  It is not terribly surprising, since he has been having unprotected sex with nearly every guy in three major cities.   That being said, he is the first person that I have ever known to have contracted it and it bothers me.  It bothers me because it is so unnecessary and more importantly because he is a friend.  I knew it was unrealistic, given that I am gay, that I would not know anyone who had contracted.  However, I had hoped that it would be later in life, or better yet a few more degrees of separation.  It is a sad day.
